Gas Boycott

We need to do something to share our pain, and let the government and the oil industry know how important this is to everyone!

There are a lot of websites our there saying that a Gas Boycott won't work and that its a hoax or an urban myth, well they're both right and wrong.

The perfect answer would be for us to quit driving, bicycle, ride the bus or the train, or walk, but that won't work in many situations. We are dependent on our cars and gas, and many of us must drive. So a total gas boycott isn't feasible and couldn't last long enough to really have much of an impact.

But a targetted boycott or basically a company avoidance could work. Its mentioned in a lot of the hoax sites and is discounted, mainly because many of the "facts" in the original Boycott Exxon/Mobil email were inaccurate, and also because targetting an individual company probably wouldn't have an impact on overall price.

But it would work in that it would start hurting that individual company, and it would hurt owners of Exxon/Mobil stations and they would start complaining to corporate.

This could work because its something we could do. If you can't change your driving habits or gas buying habits don't, just don't ever buy gas from an Exxon/Mobil station. If Exxon/Mobil is your only option, then don't worry about it, your market is probably not large enough to make a difference, BUT if there's a gas station on every corner in your area, or one on every block, then DON'T buy from Exxon/Mobil.
